The gym is located on the eighth floor next to the hotel’s swimming pool, you couldn’t ask for a better setting with fantastic city views. The gym is not huge but it never seems to get too busy so there shouldn’t be a problem of ever having to wait to use some equipment. The showers and changing rooms are to the standards you would expect of a four star hotel.

The biggest drawback of the Green Plaza Hotel Gym is the price. For a one time visit you will be charged $10 USD, this includes use of the pool, sauna and gym. The monthly fee is $100 USD for an unlimited number of visits. The management assures that competitive prices can be arranged if you join for 3 or 6 months, he wasn’t specific on how much of a discount is possible.

Beer prices are reasonable and there are also some great meals on their special Sunday Bash menu, meat pies, ribs and much more. The highlight for me is the live music, the resort’s Filipino band performs some familiar favourites and takes requests.

The Sunday Expat Bash starts from about 3.00pm and quickly became a popular social event for Danang’s expat community last year. If there is a major sporting event then it is usually displayed on the big screen next to the pool.

Danang has quite a large number of places where you can by sports equipment, most of them are scattered around town and tend to focus on one particular sport, tennis, football, swimming etc. The area the central football stadium on Ngo Gia Tu Street has a string of shops you are likely to find whatever sports equipment you are looking for at reasonable prices.

Most of the sports equipment shops are small family run places that close during lunch hours, 11.30am to 1.30pm and they usually welcome some light hearted bargaining. i would expect delivery to be included in any price especially for large bulky items. Choose your equipment wisely, refunds are difficult if not impossible to obtain, don’t expect western standards of quality.

As well as stocking sports equipment including balls, rackets, weights, exercise bikes, basketball rings and weight machines most of the shops also supply sports clothing. The clothing ranges in quality and price, it may difficult to find larger sizes here. Size 45 seems to be the largest shoe size I can find and if you are an XL back home you will struggle to find a t-shirt or shorts to fit you here.

For anyone interested in getting a bit of exercise there is a small group of expats who get together on Sunday evenings for a friendly football(soccer) match. I was contacted by Shawn, who is one of the organizers of this event and has provided InDanang.com with the following details.

When: A friendly football match will be played every Sunday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Get there a little earlier.

Where: Tuyen Son Sports Center, turn left at the end of 2/9 street.

How Much: 300,000VND per hour for the pitch, divided by the number of players that show up on the night, the more players the cheaper it is. Shawn says it usually costs someone between 100,000 and 200,000 VND per month if they participate in all matches.
