This is an old incomplete article. Can you help me add to it? Do you know of any great cheap places to eat? PLease leave some information below in the comments

First of all for anyone who has not visited Vietnam, yes it is possible to eat a meal for less than $1 usd and you can get clean, healthy, filling and very tasty food for such a small price. It is also true that you can get dirty, oily, watery, bland food for less than a dollar, so be careful where you choose to eat and follow some of the advice below for a culinary feast which is good for your stomach and your wallet.

My Quang

My Quang (pronounced “mee wang”) is probably the most popular food amongst Danang locals and for good reason, it is a traditional Danang delicacy, it is cheap and delicious. For those of you who are not into traditional Vietnamese soup dishes such as Pho or Bun, My Quang is a little different and certainly my favorite Vietnamese Noodle Soup. A bowl of My Quang served Banh Trang and lettuce to mix will cost between 15,000 and 20,000VND.
My Quang Restaurant 1
01 Hai Phong Street

Banh Xeo

Banh Xeo (pronounced “ban sayo”) is called Vietnamese pancake but doesn’t resemble a western pancake in any way. Small Danang style Banh Xeo looks more like fried tacos than pancakes. It is made from rice flour, bean sprouts, pork and shrimp then rolled with rice paper, lettuce and cucumber. When dipped with the accompanying peanut sauce it is delicious, a plate of six costs about 20,000VND.
Banh Xeo Ba Duong
282 Hoang Dieu Street

Xoi Ga

Xoi Ga (pronounced “soy gah”) is a versatile Vietnamese dish that makes a great snack at anytime of the day, personally I need two servings to fill me up. Fortunately Xoi Ga is cheap, usually about 10,000 VND per serving.

The Billabong Pub and Restaurant is an Australian theme bar and restaurant and is designed as an “old outback pub” with the ironic theme of Watersports, hence the name Billabong, which is an Australian word which usually means, a stream, river or small lake where you can find “ water, drink and shade.”

“The Bong”, as it affectionately known as by its regulars, has built up a very good and quick reputation as serving great Pub Tucker at very reasonable prices. The Bar Tucker Menu features many of the dishes that you would find in a good “Old Fair Dinkum Aussie Outback Pub” but served in a more modern Australian Cuisine style.

There is also a great selection of Gourmet Burgers (and cheap) along with the best Rib Eye and Rump Steaks served in DaNang. “The Bong” boasts DaNang’s only real Wood Fired Pizza Oven, and has a selection of over 12 mouth watering ( pun intended) Pizzas.

Opening towards the end of September “The Bong’s “dining room will be opened up and will serve an array of Australian Modern Cuisine dishes with the influences of Asia and Italy. There is an extensive reasonably priced Australian wine list available with wines from some of Australia ’s lesser known, but great wineries.

”The Bong “also caterers for birthdays, weddings, hello and goodbye parties and for any other good reason to have a party party for that matter. ”The Bong” has a really fabulous and friendly atmosphere and is a great place to unwind and “slip inta a coupla ice coldies”

The relaxed atmosphere and well priced menu make it a great place to enjoy a meal out with friends or family. Vietnamese Home Restaurant could even be a great place to start a big night out as it is located quite close to two big clubs, Camel and the New Phuong Dong on Dong Da street.

Vietnamese Home is a great place to go in the early evening and a great place to try real Vietnamese food done very well. The setting amongst beautiful gardens, waterfalls, a wishing well and Cham statues is perfect for an evening meal for couples of with a few friends. Cheap beer prices, just 13,00 VND for a tiger as well as an extensive menu add the restaurants appeal.

I enjoyed the western style tuna salad, simply tuna with a little dressing mixed with lettuce leaves, delicious. The honey chicken and mi xao hai san (fried noodles with seafood), also simple dishes done well. The green banana salad and whole fish were two traditional Vietnamese favorites that stood out, I’m a big fan of the salad.

If there is one area where Vietnamese Home Restaurant is lacking it would have to be the service, unlike most Vietnamese restaurants it seemed a little understaffed. On occasion when staff were nearby they seemed reluctant to deal with a table of foreigners, when beers were ordered they took a long time to arrive at the table. Eventually we decided to order the drinks in bulk and leave them sitting on the table resulting in drinks that weren’t too cold.

Aside from this one negative point, eating at Vietnamese Home was a pleasure and something I look forward to again in the near future. Hopefully with time and more western customers service will improve and this place will become a favorite dining spot for foreigners and Vietnamese in Danang.

Phi Lu’s success has resulted in quite a bit of expansion for what was once a small family run restaurant, most of the expansion has been into catering for weddings and functions.

For this post I will be focusing on Phi Lu 1, on Nguyen Chi Thanh street. It is a large restaurant covering 3 floors with spacious seating and plenty of Chinese vases as decoration. The second floor is air conditioned and there are separate private rooms for groups of up to 50 people.

The menu at Phi Lu Chinese Restaurant is huge with an exhaustive mix of Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. The food is well prepared and usually quick to come to your table, service is good even though little or no English is understood, the uniformed staff are eager to please. Phi Lu is open all day, it doesn’t close down in the afternoon like so many other places making it a good place to come any time of day for a full meal or a quick bite.

I think Phi Lu Chinese Restaurant is a good place to come with a few friends; it has a lively atmosphere with good food and reasonable prices. You are sure to find something to your liking and to agree with your budget.

The prices are very reasonable for outstanding western cuisine, all starters are under 100,000 VND and most main courses are less than 200,000VND. Jean Paul also serves fantastic pizza and pasta.

Mumtaz Indian Restaurant is an excellent restaurant and a favourite among Danang’s expat community. Mumtaz stands out as one of, if not the best choice for those looking for some very good food. Its menu boasts both North and South Indian dishes prepared by chefs from the different regions of India. The menu is quite extensive meaning you are sure to find something to satisfy even the fussiest tastes and you are certain to come back again and again to try and get a sample of as many of the dishes as possible.

The Indian manager, Ratheesh, is a very welcoming host and never hesitates to have a chat with his customers and will always do whatever he can to meet your needs. Mumtaz Indian Restaurant is very clean and unlike its other branch in Ho Chi Minh City has an authentic upmarket Indian feel, from the bright colors to the traditional lamps. As well as being a great place to dine, Mumtaz also delivers for free for orders over 100,000 Vietnamese Dong, delivery menus are available from the restaurant.

As you would probably expect from an Indian restaurant, Mumtaz has a fairly equal share of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, including the vegie and non-vegie thali set lunches. I am a big fan of the vegetable curry as well as the vegetarian samosas, the samosas at Mumtaz Indian Restaurant get great reviews from other expats in Danang. All of the usual Indian favorites are also available naans, tandooris, curries, pilaos and tikkas, as well as lassis and Indian teas.

So for a break from typical Vietnamese food and for something very spicy, head to Mumtaz Indian Restaurant and have a chat with Ratheesh. If you do happen to dine at Mumtaz, be sure to return to this site and give your opinion and add content to InDanang.com.

Tuesdays is Parmigiana Night from Don Cipriani’s at the Furama Resort. The Parmigiana, with its crispy herb seasoned crust, layered with cheese and ham, is forever a favorite of the Italian’s but also to just about anyone who has ever tasted this national dish. Admittedly it’s been a little difficult to fulfill the want for a good old home cooked Parmigiana here in Danang, but to the rescue, Don Cipriani’s at the Furama Resort has come.

Any good Italian cook will tell you that ‘it’s all in the crust’ and Furama’s resident Italian chef has created a signature crumb mix of robust and crispy Panko bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, lemon, thyme and chili flakes layered atop a thin slice of Parma ham then finished with a true Italian napoli sauce and buffalo mozzarella cheese.

Starting Tuesday night, June 7th there will be a weekly special parmigiana night on Tuesdays. The weekly night special is your choice of chicken, veal, eggplant or pork Parmigiana served with an Italian green salad and roasted garlic and rosemary chat potatoes, 1 chilled glass of Tiger Draught beer and 2 scoops, from a choice of twelve of house made Gelato to finish the meal at just 350,000++, whilst looking out on to the un interrupted views of the Danang beach.
