Secret Garden Coffee

by InDanang on October 21, 2009

Secret Garden CafeOn a street with no name and without a street number this place is a little bit tricky to find but worth the effort. You will also need to make a little extra effort to climb quite a few stairs to take advantage o the seclusion and the views that The Secret Garden Coffee Shop offers.

This place is perched literally up a mountain slope on the road between the newly completed Thuan Phuoc bridge and the beach (not the bay), it is essentially at the base of Monkey Mountain. It goes by the name of Nui Da, and as the name suggests caters mostly to Vietnamese, I suspect mostly to young Vietnamese couples looking for a quiet and dark cafe in the evenings.

Don’t let the Vietnamese feel of this place turn you off, it is a great alternative to the crowded and noisy cafes in town, a little countryside retreat. It is surrounded by jungle and is dotted with waterfalls, ponds and old bamboo furniture. Be prepared for a bit of exercise especially if you want the best views from the top, more than 100 steps!

On a clear day it offers views of the city including Thuan Phuoc bridge and if you are sitting in the right spot it even has ocean views. It serves typical Vietnamese coffees and teas as well as a small selection of juices, cafe sua da is 12,000 VND.

So for something different and a getaway from the usual city cafe scene give this place a try. It may even be a good place to bring Vietnamese friends who will be surprised that you know about such a hidden gem.
