It’s no secret that Hoa’s Place will be closing down soon. Ever since I first met Hoa in 2004 he has been telling everyone, “they will kick me out soon”. I heard a rumor last night that Hoa has officially been given 10 days to vacate the now famous Hoa’s Place.
This week may well be the last chance you get to have a beer down at Hoa’s and “take it easy” with him and Giao. I sincerely hope Hoa gets his act to together opens up another guest house. I certainly don’t want Danang to be full of 5 star resorts, Danang needs Hoa’s Place, wherever that may be.

F#*ck You Hoa,
We love you wherever you are.
This, coupled with the new elevator at Marble Mountain, show a complete lack of vision from powers that be. I’m talking to you in the green and tan uniforms!
10 of the best months of my life were spent in Da Nang between Marble and Monkey Mountain near China Beach … served with the 578th LEM Co at Camp Adenir.
I am still in touch with 4 of the guys in my Company who I’m sure would love to visit again now, as I would.
I am also currently exchanging email and Facebook messages with a young woman in Da Nang.
So Da Nang will always be a big part of my life. For the last 40 years I have told of my time spent in Danang.
I turned 19 when I was ‘over there’ and I turn 59 this June. It is also the 25th Anniversary of Chicago’s Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Parade in 1986.
Oh … BTW …. My friend Hoa guarded my hooch at Camp Adenir in ’71…
Da Nang needs a place like Hoa’s Place. It’s one of the few places I know where tourists can gather in such relaxing atmosphere. What Da Nang does not need is another fancy resort. Hell, you can’t even get to the beach between Da Nang and Hoi An now because of all the fences. What is left for people to see when they come here? Very soon, there will be none of the charm of Vietnam left to attract visitors. And it’s not just the tourists who are loosing out. The local people keep getting squeezed out and are rapidly loosing their traditional way of life.
Let’s not give up on Hoa just yet. He may be a small man but he has a big heart and he is a survivor. The “ten days” has come and gone but Hoa is still there.
hang in their mate your much better than the likes of big boy developers like greg norman who should be kicked off your beaches.
does anyone know when the bach dang national park will reopen, it was closed may 2010 when we stayed in vinh loc.
Yeah i knew Hoa. Big guy, tee-totaller, no sense of humour, unpleasant wife. Rooms were pricey at $4 a night, the showers ran hot and the beach was over a minute away . Fuck that.
can anyone tell me if Hoa’s is still open? I would like to stay there and can’t seem to find the right web site to get a room
thanks for your help
BIG NOooooo, I don’t want to stay in 5 star resort next FEB! FUCK!
