Hi there I am living in HCMC at the moment teaching at a local college but they are laying off teachers. I would like to move out of the city to somewhere quieter. Are there any schools there where I can teach adults. I know IELTS and business English. Also the salary of 10-15 is much lower than HCMC is that really the average!

Great post!
Just recommend you that we call our Tet is Vietnam Lunar New Year, not Chinese Lunar New Year because it has many differences with China in Tet holiday!
Thanks!

A great local restaurant is the Dong Tay - located 2 doors down from the Minh Toan Hotel on Duong 2 Thang 9. The older chap, that may or may not be the owner, is always keen to bring the english menu and makes a passable attempt of speaking english. If you can read a little vietnamese I would suggest you get the vietnamese menu as well as I think they are different. The ribs here are great, good seafood and cheap beer. All a winning combination. Worth a visit with a few people as the portions can be quite generous.

Comments about AirAsia? We gave them a try for the first time just before Xmas - SGN to KUL return (booked before the Da Nang service was announced). Here are our experiences and thoughts.
Checking in on line wastes time - the queue at the Baggage Drop was longer than the normal check in queue, and when we finally did get to the desk, it took the same time as a regular check in anyway.
Don't exceed the luggage allowances - we were charged an excess for just I kg over on our 2 cases, despite being 9 kgs below on our hand luggage.
The food on board is dire. Hot food is inedible and you are given just the foil container with plastic cutlery. No tray, wipes, salt and pepper - nothing.
To say that they take you to KL airport is a bit rich too - sure, they use the same runways as KLIA, but their terminal is miles around the far side of the airport from the main terminals. It's called the LCCT which must stand for Low Cost, Cheap and Tacky. It operates like a cattle market with long, long, walks from/to your aircraft.
Because the LCCT is outside the main KLIA terminals, the transit hotel at KLIA isn't accessible even if you are changing airlines for an onward flight. You don't count as "transit".
All of the above points (and more) were sent to AA in their customer satisfaction survey which came by email soon after our return, with the curious introduction "We hope you had a fun and awesome flight with us". Sad and gruesome would be more accurate.
That reminds me of another annoyance - once you make contact with AA you will then forever be inundated with sales emails from them, and I'm talking about every other day.
What a pity it's AA opening routes out of DN. Try them if you want - we won't again.

Go the newly opened Chinese restaurant at Mercure Danang and enjoy the lucky draw "YOU EAT, WE PAY" during this Tet.
Free karaoke and private dining room for group of more than 10.
That's great
