Cafes In Danang - In Danang - A guide to Danang, Hoi An and Central Vietnam In Danang

coffee2 Like a lot of other expats living in Danang, I rate the beach as a major reason to be here and for this reason I have chosen to live quite close to the beach. I was surprised however to find that the beach side of the river appears to lack a reasonable number of decent coffee shops.

I would think that having beach views or even a nice cafe within walking distance would be a good choice of location yet it seems that cafe owners prefer to be ‘downtown’ on busy street corners rather than close to nature. The only beach front places are the large unattractive restaurants or small dilapidated bamboo huts on the sand, a nice cafe or two would serve the beach front well, in my humble opinion.

There are a few exceptions, yet none of them are on the beach and most of them could o with some work to meet the ever increasing demands of the cafe going public.

Zen Cafe – on Pham Van Dong street is a new place, that only seems to be open in the evening and lacks any reasonable lighting, suggesting that it is perhaps trying to attractive amorous couples looking for some private time in a not too private garden setting.

Trung Nguyen – on Ho Xuan Huong street is a nice garden cafe with excellent coffee, service can be poor at times and they don’t appear to serve any food these days, which is a shame, their omelets used to be quite good.

BigBoy Cafe – on Ngu Hanh Son street is looking a little run down these days, the indoor air con area is best avoided, stained cigarette burned sofas and stale smoky air aren’t attractive. The front garden is ok but can be noisy due to loud music and the closeness of the traffic.

I am so surprised that no cafes have tried to take advantage of sea views and especially tried to go alfresco and get the fantastic evening sea breezes. The old bay road seems to have plenty of cafes which up until the recent construction had pleasant views and were great places to go in the early evening before dinner.
