While Da Nang is infested with many bakery shops, from private own to large scale companies. The best bakery shop in my opinion is called Dong Tien Bakery. Why? It is simply because they offer a lot of fresh items at a reasonable price. The main reason I choose this bakery over other is the how professional and clean they are in majority of their shops.
The “banh bao” aka covering cakes, are simply the best there. They seem to be always sold out when I try to go buy them around 7 PM or so for a quick snack. I can understand why, because when you put eat one of their banh bao, it just delicious! It’s small in size but the content inside contain a small egg, onions, mushroom, ground beef and Chinese sausages. I have tried other shop bakery version of banh bao, but to me, it just don’t taste right. Either they are just too big (seem impossible to finish) or they are just not fresh anymore. (been left outside without any steam).
Dong Tien Bakery shops always leave their banh bao steamer outside in front of the store, a great way to attract hungry guys like me who just needed a small bite on the go. You can get a banh bao for prices around 10,000 dong or less. Of course they carry more than just banh bao, they have baguette (French bread) with options of putting in chicken, beef, pork, etc.
Also they have bunch of sweet variety of sweet cakes like ananas coconut cake, which is to die for! Prices for the small sweet cakes can vary from 5,000 dong to 30,000 dong. I haven’t seen anything priced over 30,000 dong in the small sweet cakes area. They also do catering to birthday cakes, which are quite good in design and reasonably priced. I bought my birthday there and it was quite good. If your own a budget or have a small appetite, they have small miniature cakes for about 20,000 dong each.
But overall, I just adore their banh bao, it just something inside it or the warm soft buns make it different from others. Its one of those moment where you have to taste it to see yourself.
