Beachfront Restaurants

by InDanang on October 20, 2009

beach-front-parkDespite Danang having a spectacular coastline with white sandy beaches, there aren’t as many up market beachfront restaurants as you might expect. The half dozen restaurants that are along the beach road aren’t wonderful and all of them fail to really take advantage of such a good location. Despite having a beautiful beach a stone’s throw away most of the restaurants still feel like any other restaurant with little or no views of the beach.

This is probably the nicest looking place and seems to get the best reviews from expats in Danang. Its menu is the same or very similar to the other places along this strip but the food seems to be better prepared. There is some nice outdoor seating, or you can sit indoors which always seems to be very quiet.

4U is part of a chain of restaurants, they have another branch in the city centre, this beachfront restaurant focuses on serving seafood as you might expect. Being part of a chain means that the food is good enough to attract regular customers, for me this place lacks atmosphere and feels just like any other restaurant in Vietnam, but it is quite expensive.

There is another Bin Restaurant located in the center of Danang which is more focused on serving budget friendly meals than this seaside location. There is not much to report here as I have never met anyone who has tried this place, perhaps the unfortunate name is what keeps potential foreign customers away.

My Hanh Seafood Restaurant is the last restaurant on this strip and for seems to be the busiest. It has a larger outside eating area than most of the other places and seems to cater more to the average Vietnamese rather than the upper classes. As such it feels more Vietnamese, is loud and perhaps isn’t as clean as any of the other seafood places here. I have eaten a few times, the food is always good, the service can be poor and there have been a couple of problems with the bill.

These are not the only beachfront restaurants in Danang but they are probably the best four in terms of trying to cater to foreign customers. For very fresh seafood I suggest eating where the locals eat, on the sand just 200m south of this strip of restaurants or across the road from the beach 2 km north of this strip of restaurants. Don’t forget there are also a few nice seafood restaurants in the center of Danang but there are no sea views.
