Another bar in Danang?

by InDanang on September 27, 2009 | Don't forget to visit InHoiAn.com

dnbeer11I have been saying this for a long time, and it is as true now more than ever, Danang needs another bar. In fact Danang needs a few more bars to add some competition and variety to the nightlife scene.

I think it is fair to say that the Bamaboo2 bar is the only bar catering exclusively to expats, and the place that most people would agree is a true expat bar. I don’t include the Cool Spot as a bar mainly due its lack of atmosphere, lack of music and it seems to focus more on being a restaurant rather than a drinking establishment.

The Bamboo2 is a reasonable bar, it does everything a bar should do, provides a good atmosphere a range of drinks, a small food menu, good Western music selection and a laid back vibe. The problem I have with the bamboo is that it is the only option in terms of late night drinking for Danang’s expat community.

Because of this monopoly the Bamboo2 can, and I think it has, become a bit slack in maintaining standards and keeping prices reasonable. If your customers don’t like what you provide or the prices that you charge then you are rightfully allowed to ask them to go somewhere else, the problem here is, there is nowhere else.

My suggestion is that another bar in Danang would provide a multitude of advantages to our small expat community.
Variety: another option and change of scenery rather than going to the same place all the time.
Competition: competitive pricing.
Improved customer service: 2 or more bars that have to work on pleasing their customers rather than relying on a steady flow of customers because they have no other option than to visit the only bar in town.

So what do you think? Does Danang need another bar? What would you like to see from a new establishment? What would make you visit a new bar? Do you think the expat community is too small to support another bar?

Yes, I totally agree with you on this. I think there are a large enough customer base to support another (or two) bars in Danang. Just go to Seventeen Saloon and you’ll see.
Bamboo2 is good, but I think it’s rather small. Seventeen Saloon is nice but it can get a bit too loud with the live music (at least for me.) I’m hoping for a bar that is somewhere in between. Also, I’d prefer a bar with a more educated and polite atmosphere, not too rowdy.
